About the Opportunity

An established engineering business is looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join its Nottingham-based team.

This is a key role for an engineer with a strong background in workholding, fixturing and mechanical design, who enjoys working closely with customers to understand complex engineering requirements and then developing practical, innovative solutions.

You’ll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from understanding the initial application and developing the concept through to detailed design, manufacture and project delivery.

The Role

Working closely with senior management and the wider engineering team, you will be responsible for:

• Meeting with clients to understand projects and design brief.
• Developing and executing mechanical designs using 3D CAD, primarily Siemens NX and/or SolidWorks.
• Designing bespoke workholding and fixturing solutions for customer applications.
• Using computer simulations and testing techniques to evaluate, refine and optimise designs.
• Documenting design processes, iterations and test results.
• Managing your work effectively against project timescales and available resources.
• Liaising with customers, designers, engineers and manufacturers throughout projects.
• Producing technical reports, design specifications and operational documentation.
• Keeping up to date with developments in engineering technology, design practices and industry best practice.
• Supporting colleagues and contributing positively to the wider engineering team.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer who can demonstrate:

• 5 years’ engineering experience, ideally within workholding, fixturing or a closely related environment.
• Strong practical knowledge and experience of fixturing and workholding – this is essential.
• Strong proficiency in Siemens NX and/or SolidWorks.
• A sound understanding of mechanical design and engineering principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to design.
• Good time-management and organisational skills.
• The ability to communicate effectively with customers, engineers, designers and manufacturers.
• A commercially aware and practical approach to engineering design.

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering would be advantageous but is not essential where relevant industry experience can be demonstrated.
